Conquer Procrastination: The 'Eat the Frog' Technique for Tough Tasks

Hi everybody, hope everybody is well. I want to talk about the concept of "eating the frog." Many of us know about it, but some don't — so what do I mean?

When we're working in our business or our lives, there may be something that trips us up — something we find really difficult to do, like accounts, tech, or social media. When we find things tough, that's okay — it means we're learning. But sometimes we push those things to the back, or avoid dealing with them altogether. While it's good to do the things we like, there are some things we simply need to do. "Eating the frog" means doing those hard tasks. Why is it called that? Because a frog doesn't taste very nice (not that I've tried it!). The "frog" represents the challenging thing. If you're stuck, you need to find a way to get over the hump instead of procrastinating.

One technique I use: look at your list — I'm a list maker. Get a few quick things out of the way first; maybe pick three things and knock out one or two. Then, decide to eat the frog. Some people say do the frog first, but I find that hard — I like to get something done under my belt first, so I can smile and give myself a little praise. Then I look at my frog and break it down: what can I do to get it done? That might mean reaching out to someone, doing some research, or setting aside dedicated time for it.

Take one tiny step at a time — like eating a frog one tiny bite at a time.

We're here to support you. If you have a frog you need to eat, we can help, or point you in the right direction. Think about the technique of tiny steps: write it down, figure out what it actually is, and then find the steps to get it eaten. And if you have no idea where to turn, reach out for a virtual cup of tea with us.
