Confused People Don't Buy: Time for a Digital Clean-Up

Confused People Don't Buy: Time for a Digital Clean-Up

Over time, our businesses evolve, but our online presence often doesn't keep up. It's easy to write a bio and then leave it for months or even years. But a cluttered or confusing message can be a turn-off for potential clients, especially if they're new to what you do.

Take a moment to step back and look at your profiles from a fresh perspective. Ask yourself these questions:

  • What is it for? What is the main purpose of this page or profile?
  • Who is it for? Is your language tailored to your target audience?
  • What results are you trying to get? Is your call to action clear? For example, are you trying to get people to sign up for a workshop or contact you?

One of the most important things to remember is simplicity. You don't need fancy, complicated language. If someone has to look up a word to understand what you're saying, they're probably not your ideal client. Keep your language as simple as possible. The goal is clarity, not complexity.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

  • Make a list of every place you have an online presence (social media, website, etc.).
  • Collect and review your bios and descriptions. You'll likely find they're all very similar, but a quick refresh can make a big difference.
  • Update them as needed, keeping this thought in mind: Confused people don't buy. Your goal is to be so clear that people understand exactly what you do and feel confident reaching out to you.
